Likes and shares.

Likes and shares.

It’s all about likes and shares on social media…and it’s ruining who we are.

There are people eating detergent pods…for likes and shares.

There are people snorting condoms…for likes and shares.

I could go on and on but seriously…detergent pods and condoms. I just can’t. I’m at a loss for words.

When it comes to us as people…can we drop the act? Can we get back to being authentic?

The people who know me, know that my house is messy 99.9% of the time.  They know there is always a good 4 loads of laundry waiting to be done on the laundry room floor. They know my roots come in fast and dark with many chunks of gray. Speaking of chunk, they know my midsection is fluffier than normal right now. They know I am anti-makeup on the weekends. They know I am pro-elastic waistband. They know I am all about dry-shampoo so I can skip another hair-washing. They know I can’t say no to cheese fries…ever. They know I need a few pair of Spanx to fit into a pre-baby dress.  They know I sometimes bribe my kids with ice cream.  They know my children aren’t always angelic in church. They know that there is nothing perfect about my life.

I want people to like me for who I really am…not the image I am trying to project…because pretending to be something we’re not is exhausting. Sure, people still have plenty of comments about the baby weight, the hair blah blah blah. That’s when I just keep scrolling through 😉

Maybe we can stop posing really hard in pictures. Maybe we will post more pictures of us “in the moment” rather than staging something. Maybe we won’t worry about our fat roll showing before we post a pic. Maybe we won’t worry about the fact that our roots need done. Maybe we will let people see who we are without a filter. Maybe we won’t worry about holding our arm a certain way or tilting our head to the one side. (I’m guilty of these things too).

Maybe we’ll stop worrying about whether people will hit like and share.

Maybe we can just be ourselves.

The people who like our REAL pictures, flaws and all…those are our people.

Surround yourself with those people.
